How to take beautiful photos of your rental property
(without being a professional photographer)

Hey,
In this blog, we’re going to give you some simple and effective tips for taking photos that will catch the eye of your customers. In fact, in the world of short-term rentals, photos are your first shop window. Even before reading the description, travellers judge in a matter of seconds whether they like your accommodation or not. And the good news is that you don’t have to be a professional photographer or have top-of-the-range equipment to make your space shine!
1. Make the most of natural light
Natural light is your best ally when it comes to showcasing a home. To make the most of it, take your photos during the day, ideally in the late morning or early afternoon, when the light is soft and balanced. Open all the curtains to let in as much light as possible, and avoid artificial light, which can distort colours.
Swedish tip: If your home has good Nordic light (soft, diffused light), make the most of it, especially in winter when light is precious.

2. Look after the staging
Take care with the staging of your home: it’s a key element in seducing people from the very first photo. Start by tidying up meticulously, a messy space is a killer. Fold the plaids, line up the cushions and make sure that each room exudes clarity and order.
Add a touch of life: a steaming cup of coffee, a bouquet of fresh flowers or an open book can bring warmth and authenticity, as long as you keep it natural.
Don’t forget to highlight the little extras that make you dream: a terrace with a view, a private sauna, a fireplace… It’s these details that will make you fall in love.

3. Find the right angles
For successful photos, it’s important to find the right angles. Position yourself in the corners of the room to capture the maximum amount of space. This gives an impression of grandeur and openness.Avoid direct backlighting, unless you’re looking for a particular artistic effect (and the room has good light exposure). Prefer shots taken at eye level or slightly lower. This will give a more natural, pleasing perspective.
4. Show all the rooms (even the smallest ones)
One of the most common pitfalls of taking photos of your rental is wanting to show only the ‘prettiest’ rooms. But travellers want to know exactly what they’re going to find. If you miss a room or a space, you run the risk of sowing doubt or, worse still, causing an unpleasant surprise on arrival.
